Hanging of the Greens
In the Season of Advent, when we prepare for Christmas, we have an annual tradition called the Hanging of the Greens. This happens on the first Sunday in December, and begins with an Advent workshop featuring crafts and activities for all ages. After the workshop we gather in the sanctuary to worship God and to celebrate a special program during which we adorn our worship space for Christmas and celebrate the traditions that mark the season of light.
Christmas Eve
On December 24 we offer two services of Lessons and Carols, at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Both services include traditional carols, scripture lessons, special music, and prayers for the season. The 7:00 service also includes the Sacrament of Holy Communion, in which everyone is invited to share.
Ash Wednesday
The Season of Lent begins with a worship service for Ash Wednesday. This is traditionally a service of humility and penitence, in which we remember our human brokenness and renew our trust in God's grace as we begin the journey to the cross.
Maundy Thursday
This is the Thursday before Easter, which is called Maundy Thursday in remembrance of the commandment (maundy=mandatum=command) that Jesus gives his disciples to "Love one another." Our worship for this night is inspired by the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples, and consists of a simple common meal followed by a short time of worship in the social hall.
Good Friday
On the Friday before Easter we worship at noon to remember the crucifixion of Jesus. The texts for this service vary, but they have included the seven last words of Jesus, the Passion narrative in its entirety, and the psalms of Holy Week. We have been blessed recently to share the Good Friday service with our next-door neighbors at the Exton United Methodist Church.
Easter Sunday
We celebrate the resurrection of the Lord with an outdoor sunrise service and two worship services at the regular times. All Easter services include the celebration of Communion, as well as special music (handbells, choir, instrumental, etc.).
The Holiday Fair
Every November we are honored to host a community holiday fair featuring handmade gifts, themed silent auction baskets, baked goods, pictures with Santa, crafts for children, a White Elephant room, and more.
